17 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT OUR GUIDED TOURS

Q1. WHAT IS A TEA RIDE TOUR?  A tea ride tour is a social, guided cycle event, where cyclists can experience a leisurely day out and enjoy refreshments.

Q2 WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO AND SEE ON A TEA RIDE TOUR? The tea ride tour last for around 4-5 hours. The tour travels into the English countryside, visiting interesting historic buildings and places. A tour guide will accompany the group throughout the tour, giving you supplementary information about the places you visit.

Q3. WHAT IS A RIDE AND DINE TOUR?  Like a tea ride, but the cyclists can enjoy a lunchtime or evening meal.

Q4. WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO AND SEE ON A RIDE AND DINE TOUR? Each ride and dine tour last for around 3-4 hours, with 2-3 hours of cycling in the English countryside, visiting places of natural and historical interest. A tour guide will accompany you throughout the tour. At the end of the cycle ride, you will enjoy a meal at a local restaurant or pub.

Q6. WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES DURING THE TOUR? The tour route has been chosen to avoid public roads, with cycling on safer traffic free routes and shared paths. However, each route will have some on-road cycling, so cyclists need to be aware of other road users and potential hazards. We always recommend that cyclists adjust their speed in accordance with the weather, the type and condition of the road and maintain a safe stopping distance.

Q7. ESSENTIAL ITEMS TO BRING ALONG? You need to bring along a form of photo ID, either a valid passport or photo ID driving license. Failure to provide a valid photo-ID may prevent you participating in the tour.

Q8. HOW CAN I PAY? You can pay for a tour with cash (GBP Sterling), debit and credit cards (Visa and Mastercard). We don't accept cheques or any other forms of payment. 

Q9. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR OR CARRY WHEN USING AN ELECTRIC BIKE? To ensure you’re prepared, we recommend that you always carry or wear adequate waterproof clothing. We supply a bike pannier which is useful to carry essentials such as water, sunglasses and sun cream.

Q10. HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE? Anybody attending the tour must declare that they are in good health and that their eyesight is up to a good standard. You are advised to seek medical assistance if you believe you are suffering from any medical condition or disability which is likely to adversely affect the normal control of the bicycle.

Q11. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A TOUR IS CANCELLED? If you cannot attend a booked tour, please give us 3 days written notice by email. We reserve the right to cancel any tour, if we consider that the conditions put the safety of the participants at risk. In the event of cancellation an offer of an alternative date will be made. Non-cancellation and/or a ‘no show’ on your booked tour date shall incur a penalty charge of up to 50% of the value of the tour.

Q12. DO I NEED A PERSONAL INSURANCE? The Electric Bike Tour operate within UK laws that include compulsory and statutory insurance against accident and third party liability. Personal insurance against injury, item theft, loss, or any other such event is not included and it is highly recommended that you take out your own Insurance in standard procedure.

Q13. WHAT IS THE MAX.MIN TOUR SIZE? The minimum tour size is 2 and the maximum is 6 respectively.

Q14. WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS RAINING? The tour will operate in the rain, unless the tour guide rules that the conditions represent an undue risk to safety.

Q15. WHAT TYPE OF ELECTRIC BIKES ARE USED? We operate a fleet of Giant Entour E+2 electric bikes. These are easy to operate, fitted with a Li-ion battery and have an average range of around 30 miles.

Q16. ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS? To safely operate our electric bikes, you need to be 5 feet 2inch (1.52cms) or over in height. You also need to be 14 years or older.

Q17. WHAT HAPPENS IF I'M LATE OR DELAYED IN ARRIVING? Each tour operates a strict time-keeping policy. In the event of you not arriving on time, then you’ll receive no compensation, consequential losses, lost or additional travelling costs or other such claim shall be accepted in such an unfortunate event.

5 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT OUR ELECTRIC BIKE HIRE

Q1. WHAT IS ELECTRIC BIKE HIRE?  Our mobile delivery service will transport an electric bike to any location within 15 miles of Hemel Hempstead. Alternatively, you can arrange to collect an electric bike from us at our premises and enjoy a self guided day out in the Chilterns.

Q2. WHAT ARE MY REPOSPONSIBILTIES DURING THE HIRE PERIOD? You’ll be responsible for ensuring that the electric bike is returned undamaged and in the same condition. You are responsible for any damage caused through loss of control, theft or vandalism. We assume that you are a competent cyclist and shall supply you with the appropriate lock to meet the terms and conditions of our insurance policy.  A deposit of £250 for each electric bike shall be taken before the hire agreement starts and after the hire period, the deposit shall be refunded less any charges for damage. Without reservation, any injury caused during the electric bike hire period shall be entirely your own responsibility.

Q3. WHAT CYCLING ABILITY DO I NEED TO HIRE AN ELECTRIC BIKE? Anybody wishing to hire an electric bike must have some previous experience of cycling, be competent with a bicycle's controls and be able to maintain their balance whilst cycling. We do not recommend you attend or hire if you are not confident on a bicycle.

Q5. DURING THE HIRE PERIOD, IS THE ELECTRIC BIKE INSURED AGAINST DAMAGE AND THEFT? The electric bike insurance policy covers theft, but not damage. If the hire bike is left unattended in a public place, you shall be responsible for securing the bike to an immoveable metal object with the supplied padlock. You shall be responsible for ensuring that no damage is incurred to the electric bike during the hire period. In the event of damage, you shall be charged for the repair work and/or the replacement cost of the damaged item.
